2016 Texas A&M Football Predictions: Game-By-Game Picks

In SEC Football by Blake Lovell

It’ll be an interesting year for Kevin Sumlin and the Texas A&M Aggies.

After losing their top two quarterbacks, the Aggies must regroup with transfer Trevor Knight under center.

Will Knight be able to keep Sumlin off the hot seat? Or will Texas A&M be looking for a new head coach after this season?

Let’s get right to the predictions.

vs. UCLA (Sept. 3)

Josh Rosen is an outstanding quarterback. Texas A&M’s defense will need to be outstanding to stop him.

But there’s just something I like about the Aggies in this spot. While this win won’t get Sumlin off the hot seat just yet, it’ll be a nice step in the right direction.

Prediction: Win (1-0, 0-0 SEC)

vs. Prairie View A&M (Sept. 10)

I think we all know what’s happening here.

Prediction: Win (2-0, 0-0 SEC)

at Auburn (Sept. 17)

The good news for Auburn is that this game is at home. The bad news for Auburn is that Texas A&M is the better team.

But as we all know, the better team doesn’t always win. Gus Malzahn and company will already have their backs against the wall, and they find a way to sneak out a win.

Prediction: Loss (2-1, 0-1 SEC)

vs. Arkansas (Sept. 24 in Arlington, TX)

There’s no doubt that this will be a fantastic game.

And while I like the Razorbacks to exceed expectations this season, I like A&M to bounce back after the Auburn loss and win this game.

Prediction: Win (3-1, 1-1 SEC)

at South Carolina (Oct. 1)

The Gamecocks are wildly inexperienced on both sides of the ball, so Will Muschamp is in for a long season.

The Aggies hang 40-plus points on the Gamecocks.

Prediction: Win (4-1, 2-1 SEC)

vs. Tennessee (Oct. 8)

Butch Jones will have led his team to a perfect season thus far, with only a win in College Station away from setting up an undefeated clash against Alabama.

And that’s exactly why Tennessee will lose this game.

The Vols will overlook the Aggies and watch Trevor Knight lead A&M to victory.

Prediction: Win (5-1, 3-1 SEC)

at Alabama (Oct. 22)

After a hard-fought win in Knoxville, Alabama must regroup and host an Aggie team that is coming off of a bye.

Texas A&M will have all the confidence in the world after the Tennessee win, but it’ll come back down to earth at the hands of the Crimson Tide.

Prediction: Loss (5-2, 3-2 SEC)

vs. New Mexico State (Oct. 29)

The clash of the Aggies won’t end well for the team from New Mexico.

Prediction: Win (6-2, 3-2 SEC)

at Mississippi State (Nov. 5)

After losing Dak Prescott, the Bulldogs must find a way to score.

And while Dan Mullen is good at creating points, he won’t be able to find his team enough to keep up with the Aggies.

Prediction: Win (7-2, 4-2 SEC)

vs. Ole Miss (Nov. 12)

A massive game for both teams.

However, I’ll stay on the Texas A&M bandwagon and give the home team yet another win.

Prediction: Win (8-2, 5-2 SEC)

vs. UTSA (Nov. 19)

One word: Blowout.

Prediction: Win (9-2, 5-2 SEC)

vs. LSU (Nov. 24)

After rolling through the past several games, the Aggies will play an LSU team that will be a win away from wrapping up the West.

I could see this being one of the best SEC games of the season.

The winner? I’m going with the Tigers in a close game.

Prediction: Loss (9-3, 5-3 SEC)

Overall Thoughts

Texas A&M is going to surprise people this season. The Aggies are good enough to win every game on their schedule, except for maybe the difficult road trip to Tuscaloosa.

I have Sumlin’s team finishing third in the West, and that’s good for his job security.

If Knight is the quarterback that we all expect him to be, Texas A&M will have no trouble putting up points this season.

Season Prediction: 9-3, 5-3 SEC
